Therapy / counselling

At Apple Tree Psychology therapy is individually tailored in conjunction with you in order to best meet you and your child’s needs. We aim to use an effective and evidence-based approach to work with you towards your goals. We focus on making therapy safe and comfortable and work hard to establish a meaningful therapeutic relationship with you and your child.

Therapy can look different depending on how old your child is!

Working with younger children often involves a collaborative approach between therapist, child, and parent to be most effective. As children grow, they become more independent and therapy is more between therapist and child, but relies on the support of their parents with the implementation of learned strategies between sessions. Teenagers and young adults often value their ability to engage in therapy independent of their parents.

Parenting support

Parenting in today’s society is a tough gig. There are many challenges that parents face in supporting their children. At Apple Tree Psychology we believe that parents are their children’s most important advocates at school and in the community and it is vital that parent’s concerns are listened to and supported.

Parents are an essential part of the therapy process and when appropriate will be invited in to participate and contribute to the therapy sessions. Sometimes, parents choose to attend sessions independently of their child, in order to focus on learning new strategies for dealing with behaviours or gaining insights into the therapy process.

Assessments

At Apple Tree Psychology we offer a range of assessments to help gather information and gain meaningful insight into your child’s strengths and difficulties. These assessments may be useful in providing information in a diagnostic setting, for school or as part of an application for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
